Almitra Mavalvala
Almitra Mavalvala is a Parsi musician, actor, educator, and theatre artist based in Karachi. Her interdisciplinary practice revolves around themes of separation, exile, and the cyclical nature of communities breaking apart and finding their way back—often transformed, stronger, and more deeply connected than before.
After spending seven years in Australia, Almitra returned to Karachi with a renewed commitment to understanding her roots and working in close dialogue with local communities. For her, this return was not just personal—it was an act of listening, of archiving oral histories, and of making art that bears witness to the silences and resilience of the land.
During this journey, a powerful moment of connection emerged when a local from Nagarparkar remarked, “What has been done to the Parsi people in Karachi has also been done to the Nagarparkari communities.”
Her work is an offering—an act of remembrance and healing—that invites audiences to reflect on their own stories of rupture and reunion. In doing so, she hopes to resonate not only with the spirit of the land but also with the shared experiences of displacement, longing, and belonging that ripple across communities.
