JUDAI KA SAFR (The Journey Of Separation)

Verse

Hum, jin raahon par

Haath tham ke chalien

Aaj unhi raahon par

Juda ho rahay hain

Dil ka hai bojh

Aur Judai hai majboori

Humari Kahani reh gayi adhoori

Chorus

Judai ka safr hai mushkil

Par doori main bhi hai ek silsila

Waqt ke faaslay se hum kho na jaien

Dil ki raah par chal na payien

Dunya ke konay main, bhool na jaana

Phir milne ke, vaaday rakhna

Verse

Aankhon main aansu, honton pe muskaan

Lamhay jo guzray, yaadon ke nishaan

Faaslay ka hai dard, par umeed bhi

Manzilon pe hum, phir milenge kabhi

Chorus

Judai ka safr hai mushkil

Par doori main bhi hai ek silsila

Waqt ke faaslay se hum kho na jaien

Dil ki raah par chal na payien

Dunya ke konay main, bhool na jaana

Phir milne ke, vaaday rakhna

TRANSLATION:

Verse
We, who walked on these paths
Hand in hand
Today, on those same paths
Are parting ways
The heart is heavy
And separation is a necessity
Our story remains unfinished

Chorus
The journey of separation is difficult
But even in distance, there is a connection
May we not get lost in the distance of time
May we find our way on the path of the heart
In any corner of the world, don’t forget
Keep the promises of meeting again

Verse
Tears in our eyes, smiles on our lips
The moments we spent, traces of memories
There is pain in the distance, but hope as well
One day, we will meet again at our destination

Chorus
The journey of separation is difficult
But even in distance, there is a connection
May we not get lost in the distance of time
May we find our way on the path of the heart
In any corner of the world, don’t forget

Keep the promises of meeting again

Mehmaan (GUEST)

Vaaday nibhana jaantay nahi Tum

Sawaalon ke jawab jaantay nahi tum

Har insaan main hai Marvi ki nishaani

Nizaam ki muzahmat ki hai kahani

Bachay Hain humari mustaqbil

In ke bina Kuch kar na payien

Hum rahay na rahay

Par ye kahaniyan hum chor ke jayiengay

Aye thay hum mehmaan ban kar

Ja rahay Hain khandan ban kar

Translation:

You do not know how to honor promises
You do not know how to answer questions
In every soul lives the spirit of Marvi
A tale of defiance against the system’s cruelty

Children are our future’s flame
Without them, we cannot achieve a thing
Whether we remain or fade away
These stories—we will surely leave behind

We came as guests, uncertain and shy
We leave now, as family, bonded by ties

ECHOES OF KAROONJHAR Almitra Mavalvala

ECHOES OF KAROONJHAR

By Almitra Mavalvala

This is the land where mountains run free between the birds and the trees, and only.....

Voices echo
Where the wind carves songs into the stone,
the earth remembers.

Voices rise—some urgent, some fading—
calling back to the land that held them first.
The soil swallows stories whole,
holds them beneath the surface,
waiting for someone to listen.

Languages shift like riverbeds,
cracked and dry,
or rushing forward,
spilling into what remains
of the Saraswati River

We hear, the Echoes

of Karoonjhar

Artist Statement

My name is Almitra Mavalvala, and I am a Parsi musician, actor, educator and theatre artist from Karachi. My body of work has long revolved around themes of separation, exile, and the cyclical nature of communities coming apart and finding their way back together, often stronger and closer than before. I spent 7 years in Australia only to return to my roots, to understand why I had to return, to create and build and grow with communities of our land. I acknowledge what a privilege it has been to listen to the stories of the land and incorporate these stories as part of the archive.

Whilst I was there, and as I reflected on the challenges faced by marginalized communities, locals poignantly remarked, “What has been done to the Parsi people in Karachi has also been done to the Nagarparkari Communities.” This simple yet profound statement bridged the emotional gap between seemingly distant communities, revealing the common wounds inflicted by exclusion and erasure.

Judai Ka Safr (The Journey of Separation) is a piece about displacement, belonging and the journey of what it means to leave, only to return back home, which so many of these communities in Karoonjhar/Nagarparkar have experienced. Music has always been my way of expression and language holds a very dear place in my heart. My aim through this song and poetry is to capture the essence of these fragmented journeys, inviting audiences to reflect on their own histories of rupture and reunion.

I hope my art feels like an offering—an act of remembrance and healing—reminding us that beneath differences lie shared stories of survival and the search for connection.

I hope this song  not only resonates with the soul of the land but also with the shared experiences of displacement, longing, and belonging that echoes across communities.
